The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was given.
