Young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 are provided addiction rehab programs created specifically to meet their needs. The most effective treatment offered to young adults is at an inpatient treatment facility in Post which provides a wider spectrum of recovery services than outpatient programs. Addiction disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders can be worked on simultaneously in drug treatment programs for young adults which have psychologists or therapists on staff to handle co-occurring disorders.
Young adults involved in rehab programs which specifically treat their demographic benefit from having the peer support on hand and the empathy of rehabilitation staff who are usually skilled and experienced at treating young adults.
The duration of treatment can vary for young adult recovery facilities, and this is usually determined based off the individual's growth during the program. The more progressed the problem is, the longer it will be recommended that the young adult stays in treatment. If outpatient treatment is the only option available, this too should be intensive enough to meet the client's needs. For instance, there are outpatient programs for young adults which merely require the client to participate in therapy and counseling 1 or 2 times per week, and there are programs which require daily participation.
