Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a form of treatment for an addiction problem that is significantly more involved and comprehensive than a standard outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental aspect of recovery for clients in Coal Center who have just finished inpatient or residential rehabilitation, and still need adequate support and intervention while they progress to a clean and sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's involve treatment which takes place more often than regular outpatient, where the person will participate in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally involves group and sometimes individualized counseling meetings to continue to work on the person's addiction. Individual sessions often occur at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is essential for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on refining relapse prevention abilities, managing every day challenges and triggers, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab centers include family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which may be beneficial for clients who need to repair their relationships with their loved ones and family members.
