Regular out-patient treatment is usually a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient centers or inpatient rehabilitation, and is the lowest intensity of formal substance abuse rehab available in Force. Some people are in rehab for their first time and have picked regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and time commitment and scheduling because of school, work or other obligations. In some cases, regular outpatient is a "step-down" from rehab in a more intensive outpatient center like a partial hospitalization or in-patient facility.

Regular outpatient recovery services have individual and group counseling services delivered once maybe twice per week. Facilities that offer a more diverse range of services may include counseling (CBT) to assist with relapse prevention and dual-diagnosis services to help address co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. How long someone remains involved in treatment can vary, and a person's improvement can be evaluated from time to time and an extension of treatment can be recommended contingent upon these findings.

In many situations, a regular outpatient rehab facility is going to be insufficient in intensity for an individual who is facing a severe substance abuse problem and has not gone to rehab before or has relapsed following prior outpatient recovery.
