Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Meadow Lands, PA.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Meadow Lands that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
