The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in New Stanton are programs who are legally permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch.
