Substance abuse programs for Veterans are crucial for the mental health and overall stability of Vets of all branches of the military. Because alcohol and drug abuse and other mental health disorders are experienced at higher than average rates among Veterans, it is crucial that Veterans get the help they need because of such high rates of suicide also associated with these disorders with our Vets.

Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Vets in Southwest are available through the VA, with services that include efforts to handle associated disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, disturbed sleep, irritability, and/or relationship problems which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Veterans. Rehab for substance abuse and associated disorders among Veterans includes psychotherapies and group and individual therapy which can increase a person's motivation to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications can also be used in some instances to help Military Vets decrease their drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
