Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Windsor, SC.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Windsor that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
