Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Antioch, TN.

There are programs offered in or near Antioch that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
