Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Bluff City, TN.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Bluff City which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is encouraged.
