Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Eagan, TN.

There are addiction programs available in or near Eagan that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
