Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Elizabethton, TN.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Elizabethton which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally not engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
