Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Lone Mountain, TN.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Lone Mountain that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
