Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Morris Chapel, TN.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Morris Chapel which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is encouraged.
