Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Norene, TN.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Norene that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is encouraged.
