There are programs offered in or near Petersburg which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
