The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Rockwood are programs which are legally permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medication like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been given.
