Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Trezevant, TN.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Trezevant which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
