The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Houston are programs that are officially permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year.
