When an individual has overcome substance abuse problem, it's not as simple as starting life again where you left off. Returning to a stable and happy life takes time and a great deal of effort. A Halfway House, also known as a Sober Living Facility, is an environment where recovering individuals can live in a sober and supportive environment until they are able to live confidently on their own. Living in a Halfway House may be a condition of a person's probation for example, or someone may make the decision to live in a Halfway House of their own will after drug or alcohol rehab. Either way, tenants of a Halfway House are sober and striving to do what they need to do to get their lives back on track. This could mean, for example, getting one's GED, getting employment, etc.
Halfway Houses in Jamaica Beach are managed by people who in most cases were once residents of the house. The duration an individual is allowed to live at the Halfway House will differ, but it's commonly anywhere from a month to a couple of years. Tenants are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to entering the house, and this testing will happen intermittently to ensure there isn't any substance use in the house or addiction issues that would be more adequately dealt with in a drug or alcohol treatment facility.
