The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Missouri City are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment facility can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was given.
