Individual sessions may take place at least once a week, and group sessions will add the peer support that is essential for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on improving relapse prevention skills, managing every day stresses and triggers, and how to manage any discomforts and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs include family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which may be essential for individuals who must repair their lives with their loved ones and family members.
