The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
