Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Cottonwood Heights, UT.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Cottonwood Heights that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
