There are recovery programs offered in or near Garrison which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
