Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Lyman, UT.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Lyman that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
