Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Midvale, UT.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Midvale which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
