Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Monticello, UT.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Monticello that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
