Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Randolph, UT.

There are addiction programs available in or near Randolph that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is encouraged.
