Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - South Salt Lake, UT.

There are recovery programs offered in or near South Salt Lake that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
