Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Sundance, UT.

There are programs offered in or near Sundance which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
