Military Insurance - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Alexandria, VA.

The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.

Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain substance abuse treatment services in Alexandria. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehabilitation services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to remain in rehab.
