The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Henrico. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab.
