Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Washington, VA.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for clients in Washington who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid dependent individuals, many of which are opioid-based also and are habit forming. In low amounts however, the individual does not experience being high but also does not experience intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this sole purpose, but there are alternative options to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic certified to dispense the drug, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the drug is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which is only be dispensed in structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around just under $300 monthly for the generic of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opiates. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and is priced approximately $450 a month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
