Intensive outpatient treatment, or "IOP", is a method of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is significantly more involved and comprehensive than a regular outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is an essential action for clients in Kirkland who have recently completed residential or inpatient rehab, and still want moderate support and encouragement while they transition to a clean and sober and ethical way of living. IOP's consist of therapy which takes place more often than regular outpatient, where clients will participate in the treatment usually once or twice a week unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment usually consists of individual and group counseling sessions to continue to work on the individual's addiction. Individual sessions often take place at least once a week, and group sessions can provide the peer support that is often crucial for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on refining relapse prevention abilities, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs involve family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which may be beneficial for people who need to repair their relationships with their families and loved ones.
