Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a method of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is significantly more involved and comprehensive than a regular outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental activity for recovering individuals in Richland who have recently completed residential or inpatient rehab, and still need moderate support and encouragement while they progress to a sober and productive way of living. IOP's consist of therapy which takes place more frequently than regular outpatient, where the person will participate in treatment services and activities usually once or twice a week unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling meetings to continue to help address the individual's addiction. Individual sessions will take place at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on improving relapse prevention abilities, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any discomforts and cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab centers involve family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which may be beneficial for clients who need to rebuild their relationships with their loved ones and family members.
