The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain substance abuse treatment services in Milton. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically accepted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished prior treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
