The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse treatment services in Oshkosh. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
