SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Advent, WV.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Advent are programs who are legally allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of certification it has been granted.
