The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Buffalo are programs that are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. An opioid treatment facility can receive basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehab facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office.
