The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Charles Town are programs who are legally permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year.
