The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Miami are programs that are legally permitted to dispense the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can receive basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been granted.
