The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
