The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Rock are programs which are legally permitted to dispense the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehabilitation program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of certification it has been granted.
