The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Terra Alta are programs who are officially allowed to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office.
