If someone in England needs substance abuse treatment and doesn't have private health insurance or the funds to pay for the recovery program in full, the Access to Recovery Voucher is an option to consider. ATR is a federally-funded program which provides the means for qualified people to access treatment programs and support including inpatient programs, intensive outpatient, regular outpatient, counseling, continuing care, life coaching and recovery support, vocational training, skills building, and transportation assistance. The ATR grant program provides individuals with vouchers to acquire rehabilitation and recovery support services for substance use disorders at the provider of their choice. To qualify for ATR clients must meet certain criteria, including: 1) be at least 18 years of age, 2) have a history of substance use or abuse, 3) have an annual income that is below 200% of the Federal poverty level, and 4) reside in the counties or jurisdictions that provide ATR.
People interested in the Access to Recovery Voucher can consult with ATR Service Coordinators in their area. If someone's original choice of program or rehab center isn't working out, they can work with their ATR coordinator to locate one that is and that accepts the ATR.
