Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Houston, AR.

One of the out-patient rehab alternatives for people in Houston who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to dispense certain meds to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are habit forming. In low enough amounts however, the user does not experience high feelings but also does not have acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this purpose, but there are alternative options currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the med, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is approximately one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that can only be given in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around just under $300 monthly for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs approximately $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
