Naltrexone is another medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse.
