Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Crown King, AZ.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol abuse and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, that is available through injection once a month. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of an addiction treatment program in Crown King which also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak to your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the sober life you want.
