The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse treatment services in Glendale. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other primary treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
